Position Description

Boston Medical Center is more than a hospital. It is a network of support and care that touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in need each year. It is the largest and busiest provider of trauma and emergency services in New England. Emphasizing community based care, BMC is committed to providing consistently excellent and accessible health care. The hospital is the primary teaching affiliate of the Boston University School of Medicine, and a founding partner of Boston HealthNet- an integrated healthcare delivery system that includes many community health centers.

We are currently conducting a search for an exceptional Nurse Director for our Adult Emergency Department.

The BMC adult emergency team consists of experienced emergency medicine attending physicians, emergency nurses, support staff, mental health specialists, social workers, and emergency medicine residents. This interdisciplinary team provides compassionate, state of the art care to a diverse and underserved patient population. We serve over 130,000 patients annually, and are the receiving facility for the majority of traumatic injuries in the metropolitan area. Boston Medical Center is a national leader in programs advocating for violence prevention, substance abuse treatment, HIV testing and prevention, services for our homeless community, and refugee health and human rights. We set the standard for total care and harm prevention.

This Nurse Director reports to the Associate Chief Nursing Officer – Emergency Department, and will collaborate with a strong nursing leadership team to drive forward process improvement initiatives and maintain a positive tone in this fast paced, challenging environment. This confident, driven leader will enjoy working alongside an Assistant Manager, Nurse Educator, and other colleagues to elevate practice to an even higher level of excellence. While the role requires a dynamic and energetic leader, there is an excellent infrastructure in place to support work/life balance and self-care. This individual will be an integral member of a cohesive, successful, and highly respected nursing leadership team.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years emergency nursing experience, with additional significant experience as a Nurse Manager, preferably in a busy urban Level 1 Trauma Center. Demonstrated credibility as a Nurse Leader, broad based healthcare operations expertise, and ability to forge collaborative relationships at all levels of the organization required.   BSN required, advanced degree strongly preferred.
