Job Purpose:

To provide medical care to all students and staff and visiting teachers during the outdoor education program (M-F).

Cody’s Outdoor Education programs provide opportunities for students to explore environmental and STEM education through inquiry-based lessons at our location on Cape Cod, MA. Our Cape Cod site is in Yarmouth Port, MA and provides opportunities for students to explore a marine environment. With trips to the local beaches, students are able to experience the beauty of Cape Cod and also learn about the ocean.

Job Description:

The Outdoor EducationNurse will provide basic medical care, including dispensing medication. They are responsible for the preliminary evaluation of symptoms, complaints, and injuries. The nurse will provide treatment and follow-up based on each medical situation and may refer patients to a local doctor, hospital, or ambulance services. Our nurse is also responsible for contacting families about student medical and health issues. Also, if a student’s paperwork is not completed properly or there are any questions about medications or allergies, the nurse will contact those families to resolve those issues. The nurse is also responsible for handling medications during meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) as well as before bedtime. The nurse is responsible for monitoring the health and wellness of students and staff. Our nurse is also responsible for patient logs which may include a range of ailments and injuries such as, but not limited to: sprains, bruises/scrapes, lice prevention, coughs/colds, stomach upsets, fatigue, and homesickness. The medicals logs should be done with great attention to detail and should be completed in accordance with American Camp Association standards. The nurse will create and maintain the supplies for first aid kits (for teaching staff). Our nurse will also coordinate with the teaching staff, several times each day, to ensure that emergency medications (i.e. EpiPens and rescue inhalers) are with the proper staff for each activity. The nurse will be “on-call” 24 hours a day during the school’s stay with Camp Cody.

Reports to: School Program Coordinator

Accommodations/Salary:

The nurse will be provided his/her own accommodations on campus, and be required to remain on campus throughout the school’s trip. The salary compensation is $800-$1000 per week (room and board included) based on experience.

Required Qualification:

Registered Nurse with previous experience in pediatrics.

There is potential to extend employment with Camp Cody to a 9-month position working as the summer camp Nurse Coordinator and then returning to work with the outdoor education program in the fall.
