Massachusetts Bay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practical Nursing from qualified applicants. We are seeking an enthusiastic Practical Nursing Instructor to take an active contributing role in the Health Sciences Division and teach a full-time (approximately 15 credit hours per semester) schedule. The successful candidate will be expected to take on an active role within the Department, Division, and College.

Position Summary

Primary responsibilities include participation in the development, classroom instruction, and evaluation of courses across the Practical Nursing curricula; supervision of students in the clinical, college laboratory, and simulation settings; and academic advising.  Adheres to faculty responsibilities in accordance with regulations set forth by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (MABORN), and standards set forth by the Accreditation Commission of Nursing Education (ACEN) standards.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Prepares syllabi and course materials, including writing exam questions;
  • Assigns, supervises and evaluates students in the clinical setting;
  • Plans clinical experiences for, provides supervision of and appropriately evaluates and documents student delivery of safe nursing care to an individual or group of individuals;
  • Actively participates in the development and implementation of a written systematic plan of evaluation of all components of the nursing program, including the assessment of graduate student learning outcomes and nursing competencies;
  • Academic advisor to students;
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Serve on College committees (college governance) as elected or appointed;
  • Attend Division, Department, and Committee meetings;
  • Serve on Nursing Program committees;
  • Actively participates in the assessment of course and program learning outcomes (student achievement) in accordance with MA BORN and ACEN standards;
  • Collects, analyzes, and utilizes appropriate data to evaluate and revise course and program student learning outcomes;
  • Develops/revises curricula based upon evidence (curriculum plan);
  • Develop and revise program policies that are consistent with parent institution with differences justified based on program goals;
  • Recommend to the faculty suitable and comprehensive instructional material, textbooks, clinical sites, and library acquisitions and other learning resources;
  • Demonstrates proficiency in technological skills in classroom and clinical settings (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, online learning platform/Blackboard, electronic health records) and ability to use technology effectively to communicate with students and colleagues and to enhance classroom learning as appropriate;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence and expertise in classroom/clinical/simulation teaching and the discipline of nursing;
  • Adhere to Massachusetts Community College Contract;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a current unencumbered Massachusetts RN License;
  • Minimum of an earned Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required;
  • Possess a minimum of two years full-time experience in nursing, or its equivalent, within the last five years;
  • Evidence of clinical competence in the area of clinical instruction;
  • Maintain expertise appropriate to teaching responsibilities;
  • Maintain current health and immunizations for clinical clearance;
  • Maintain Health Care Provider CPR level appropriate to teaching responsibilities; 
  • Compliance with MA BORN 244 CMR 6.0 including good moral character compliance (CORI/SORI).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous academic teaching experience in the college setting and/or clinical teaching experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to promote and evaluate student learning;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body;
  • Demonstrated ability to use information technology effectively.

Work Hours:  Daytime program hours

Education: Earned Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Master’s preferred;

Salary Range: $41,621.00 - $99,077.75. Instructor to Professor levels, in accordance with qualifications and experience and subject to the collective bargaining agreement.

The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated in the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure. Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.
